Catholicism Isn't Afraid of Any Questions
Protestantism runs away from simple, direct questions
Since the Catholic faith is founded upon Jesus Christ, who is truth itself, it is not afraid of any questions. Any and every question can be answered and the Catholic faith doesn’t run from those who question it. In fact, Scripture says to be ready to answer questions and challenges to the faith.
1 Peter 3:15 but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and reverence. Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who abuse you for your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.
The Catholic Church is the pillar and foundation of the truth.
1 Timothy 3:15 if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.
The Catholic Church is led by the Holy Spirit into all truth. The Catholic Church has no one to be afraid of and no question to run from.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but will speak whatever He hears, and He will declare to you the things that are to come.
The same cannot be said about Protestantism and Protestants. There are several simple questions that expose the theological errors of Protestantism. (The key to the questions is asking these questions about the person you are talking to and not some random, unnamed, generic Christian.) Some of these are:
Will YOU (insert name) be saved if YOU (insert name) refuse to love God?
How does one love God?
What will happen to YOU (insert name) if YOU (insert name) refuse to do good works or produce good fruit?
Can YOU (insert name) refuse to do good works?
Can YOU (insert name) choose to sin and reject the will of God?
Will God forgive YOU (insert name) if YOU (insert name) refuse to forgive others?
The key to these questions is to force them to answer for what will happen to THEM, not some unnamed, generic Christian which they will try to answer for. They want the generic Christian because they will answer that this generic Christian is NOT REALLY saved and NOT REALLY a believer. Don’t let them get away with that. They will claim that this generic Christian is not really a believer, but they will always say that THEY are a real believer. So ask if THEY, a real believer, chooses to refuse to love God and chooses to refuse to do good works, will THEY be saved?
Their theology (sola fide/faith alone) claims that we are saved by faith and that our works play no part in whether we are saved or not. Of course this is completely contrary to what Jesus and the Apostles taught and completely contrary to what Scripture teaches. But that doesn’t matter in Protestantism because they don’t actually follow what Scripture says, they only follow what they INTERPRET Scripture to say. (Those are two entirely different things.)
Now here is how a Catholic answers these 6 questions above because they are exceedingly easy to answer when you have the actual Christian faith:
I will go to hell if I refuse to love God
You love God by obeying His commands (John 14:15)
I will go to hell if I refuse to do good works and produce good fruit. Jesus wasn’t kidding in the Parables of the True Vine (John 15), Talents (Matthew 25) and Sheep & Goats (Matthew 25).
Yes. Everyone can refuse to do good works. That’s why Jesus warns His followers to REMAIN in Him (Parable of the True Vine)
Yes. Everyone can choose to sin and reject the will of God. And only those who do the will of the Father will be saved (Matthew 7)
No, God will not forgive me if I refuse to forgive others. In fact, He may reinstate previously forgiven sins if I refuse to forgive others. Jesus wasn’t kidding in the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant (Matthew 18)
See how easy these questions are to answer?
But Protestants can’t answer these questions because either their answer will contradict the doctrine of faith alone, or it will contradict the teaching of Jesus and Scripture.
Protestantism is not the Christian faith because it is a heresy. Those who believe in it are in error and need Catholics to cheerfully and lovingly (but firmly) inform them and evangelize to them. They have a right to know the actual Christian faith. They have a right to choose whether to follow Christ and His Church or to reject them. It is our duty to let them know about the Christian faith. We will be judged by Christ on whether we informed them of the truth.
