For those unaware, Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler (Texas) is now being investigated by the Vatican because he upholds the Catholic faith boldly and led a prayer march/rally outside the L.A. Dodgers stadium protesting the Dodgers celebration of a blasphemous group called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Because this Bishop is actually being a faithful Catholic, the Vatican is sending in two bishops to investigate him. They will probably attempt to drum up an excuse that the Vatican can use to remove Bishop Strickland from his diocese. Make no mistake, the Vatican absolutely loathes this bishop because he is a bold and faithful bishop who believes the Catholic faith. He is regrettably quite alone in this distinction among the episcopacy in America.
So if it can be of any assistance to his excellency, perhaps Bishop Strickland can consider using several of these ideas when meeting with these Vatican investigators. We must always remember that we are among the wolves, so as Christ told us, we must be “wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16). Of course if the Holy Ghost directs you in a different path from these pointers, always follow His guidance.
Record Everything: If there investigation of you is honest and legitimate, they will not object to being recorded in all your meetings with them. And say NOTHING to them outside of these recording devices. Make them go on the record with a digital trail so that nothing can be misconstrued or fabricated.
Bring Your Attorneys: This is not a friendly chat or a meeting to discuss areas of improvement. The only “problem” they are trying to solve, dear bishop, is YOU. So you need to have your attorneys in these meetings with you. You need sharp legal minds to figure out what they are asking, and then figure out what they are REALLY asking about. If possible, one of these attorneys should be a canon law expert as well.
Make Them Be Specific: Don’t let them tell you they are looking into irregularities or investigating some unusual activity. Don’t let them use generic language at all. If they will not be specific, you keep asking them more questions until you get them on record of what they are looking for.
Write Everything Down: Make sure they see you and your attorneys documenting EVERYTHING they say. I know that you are recording the conversations, but ALSO write it all down. You will be surprised to see how people respond when they see you documenting on paper everything they say.
These Are Not Your Friends: The bishops that will be sent to investigate you might have been friends with you at one point. They may have been pals that you had wonderful times with in the past. All that is gone now. They are there for your scalp. Period. So treat them as such. In fact, it’s almost probable that the Vatican selected these bishops BECAUSE they have been friendly with you in the past and think that you will not expect their treachery that will come.
Be a Ron Swanson Witness: Answer every question of theirs, with a question. Never answer anything with a direct answer if possible. Every bit of information you give them will only be used against you. Better yet, just don’t answer if possible.
Proudly Carry Your Cross: We faithful Catholics understand how lonely you feel right now. None of your brother bishops will stand with you, and the “good” bishops are silent in your time of need. We understand because many of us have been feeling the same way in our parishes for quite some time. While this is painful to feel so lonely, know that you are not alone. The hundreds/thousands who read this post will be praying for you with fervor and zeal. Carry this cross boldly your excellency! We are praying for you!
NOTE TO READERS: This is your call to action. Pray at least a decade of a rosary for this good and faithful bishop. Pray with zeal for him as he is persecuted by the very people who are supposed to strengthen and encourage him. Pray for him and that other bishops will start to emulate him and save their souls from damnation.
PRAY!
