We must forsake sin, agree wholeheartedly. It promises the world and yields only death. What do you say to Paul's words to Timothy, "Christ came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am the chief" (present tense). Are we truly able to forsake all sin?
Yes we are able to forsake all sin. Jesus Himself said "be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect". Each sin we commit is an act of our will, it is not a mistake.
If we have been deeply mired in sin for many years, it can take many years of penance, sacrifice, and frequent sacraments to build our sanctification to the level where we are able to deny our fallen nature the sin it craves. But we must choose each day to pick up our cross.
